Proposed offseason trade!!!
LMLWFFL trades One Blonde Bear Named Barry
LMLWFFL receives One Blonde Twink Named Dave
That's right. It looks as though Bud has decided to take his underutilized ball and go home. This has caused all kinds of discussions and creative ideas around the LMLWFFL labs and the best idea that seemed to get the most attention was to do the following...
1. Take Dave back. We all know that him quitting was temporary anyhow.
2. Create a relegation system a la the English Premier League.
For you Philistines unfamiliar with the EPL's relegation rules, the idea is that the last place team will be relegated for the next season. Since there is no LMLWFFL Championship Division, that means that last place will have to sit out the next season. Seems harsh, right?
Well the other idea was to contract to a 10 team league. The biggest problem with this is that the talent pool becomes so diluted that fielding a bunch of all-stars every week just felt like it wouldn't work in the long run. There are some rules which we'll get into for this, but there are some questions to be answered.
1. What happens with Bud's players?
Auction draft. Not that anyone would want to pay a high price for them anyhow, but I think Wuske is going to work the details out on this. Assume for now that the first and only Bear Auction will happen the same day as the annual draftacular.
2. Who sits out this season?
Dave. As punishment for turning his back on you, he should have to sit out the next season. We'll probably make him blow all of us too.
3. How will this whole relegation thing work?
Excellent question. There are a few main components to the relegation rules that need the most attention. The first has to do with trades. While it would make sense for a player to dump all his vets for a bunch of young guys if he's going to sit out a season, this will be frowned upon and voted out. It'll take 66% to vote a trade through if it involves a relegated team starting at the beginning of this season. That's to discourage dumping (huh-huh). Secondly, the draft. The relegated team will draft 1st in the draft preceding his team's return, and will draft slotted according to his spot in the new proposed draft order, which I'll explain below.* Third, a team that doesn't participate in a season doesn't have to contribute to the jersey fund for the winner. There. I just saved you like $8. Fourth, a relegated team will still have the right and responsibility to vote in all trades and league stuff as well as showing up to everything. It's not excommunication. Dave still wants to drink with you geeks.
4. This is stupid/awesome I want to vote for/veto the eff out of this? How do I do that?
Now's your chance. You get until Friday night at 8p to voice your opinion in the comments and say whether you are okay with it or veto it. It's going to take 6 of you to veto so you better get those votes together. A vote for a veto is a vote for a 10 team league where both Dave's team and Barry's old team are liquidated.
*To promote competition even among teams not making the playoffs in a given season, and to assure that the first overall pick in every draft will spend their first season on a relegated team, we would like to change the way we set the draft order. Although there will only be ten teams playing on any given season, we will still have six playoff teams, and their draft positions will be slotted as normal. The team returning from relegation will draft first, and then the four non-playoff teams will draft in the 2-5 spots in the opposite order that they would have in the past. For example, the seventh place team (first out of the playoffs) will pick 2nd and the last place team (the team about to be relegated) will pick 5th. Obviously we won't change that for the upcoming draft, so Devin now has the first overall pick and everyone else also moves up a slot. I believe Davey said he'd take the last pick this year, especially since he'll be getting the 1st next year, but he can correct me if necessary.

So I'm confused. If Dave is back in and Bud is out, doesn't that just mean we replaced Bud with Nate? And doesn't that still leave us with 12 teams? Or is Nate no longer temporarily taking over for Dave, but actually taking over for Bud? Why is the relegation necessary if we still have 12?
Nate didn't really want to do it anymore. About the time this was realized, Bud was quitting so it was down to 10. The idea was that it might be more interesting if we include an 11th rather than dilute the talent pool and boom...relegation.
What about just getting another person and making it 12? No relegation and no confusion. I think relegation is a great idea if we had say, enough guys for two leagues. Then it would make way more sense. But forcing someone to sit out an entire year just seems ludicrous. I'm officially voting not to do relegation and to simply find a 12th.
Veto logged. I think the issue was with finding someone who actually wanted to join. That became a problem.
I believe Frisch desperately wanted in.
We (it started with a conversation between Dave, Joel, and me) liked this idea not because we thought it was the most simple idea (which it definitely isn't), but because we thought it would be fun. I understand why some would be opposed, but I just wanted to make it clear that we talked about adding a twelfth team, we just thought this would be more enjoyable.
I think part of the issue with Frisch was that no one had heard recently if he was still that interested. To me, Frisch is a viable option and I think what brought the whole scheme about was the idea that we could try something new and this would be the chance to do it since it isn't like we're doing anyone a favor by 'gifting' them with Bud's team. But if anyone else feels that way, please speak up. You suckaz are boring outside of The Kid.
In other news, I'm going to be pissed off if I'm not a relegated team. The Sheffield Wednesday polo I ordered to wear to this year's draft that I had to pay for in British Pounds of Sterling Silver will serve as a constant reminder of what once was.
More contribution, please. Other people. Speak the eff up.
I don't necessarily care if it's Frisch or not. I just remember he had said that he would want in if there was a vacancy. And I haven't talked to him in quite a while. But I just see getting a 12th as a better option than relegation.
I think I'm with the Kid on this one. If we can't find a twelfth man, I guess I'd be OK letting the great experiment...BEGIN!!!! BUt seriously, all you magnificent midwesterners have to know of somebody who would want in. So I guess I'm vetoing for now in lieu of finding a twelfth man.
I think Barnes getting in the league would've been a joke at one point, but he's been in another league with me for the past two years. He's not the most gifted fantasy football guru, but he fills his lineup and will have enough access to reject/accept trades without letting them sit for an entire season (even though Yahoo allows a max of 10 days, this is me venting from when we were with CBS).
我們能互相給予的最佳禮物是「真心的關懷」。.......................................................
the only problem i see with relegation is that the team being relegated would lose interest by the time the next season rolled around. but i guess i'm a little confused here, and forgive my ignorance. if we had 11 teams, why not make one division have an extra team? does it have to be an even number of teams? if one division has an extra team, how much does that really affect the playoff system we have in place? i think, personally, any system we can come up with will work better than relegation, but i'm up for whatever.
Brian, Yahoo won't allow us to have an uneven amount of teams. I agree that our playoff structure would keep it from being too unfair, but we wouldn't even be allowed to enter our players into the system with 11 teams.
So do we have more details on how this will actually work, I mean the relegation thing.
Let's get Barnesy all up ins. I think twelve teams is always gonna be our best bet.
oh, thanks for clearing that up. i thought it was more of a preference, didn't realize that yahoo forced us to have an even number of teams. i fully understand the relegation system, and it could be a lot of fun, and def. makes those late season games playoff games for the bottom feeders of the league, which i think will keep the bottom teams interested throughout and not just quit mid season (not saying anyone has ever done this, but it is def. a deterrent). there are positives and negatives to it, but i agree that we should try hard to find a 12th manager.
i vote against relegation, if I was the relegated team i would be done after sitting out a year
I do not have a strong opinion. I suggested the idea of relegation (not thinking that it would go anywhere) and I think it would really raise the stakes of the league so my vote is for the relegation system. But I think there are two good guys on our waiting list and Barnes makes the third. So if Devin and Fred vote to veto then I will begin communication with Frisch. Chase Diller is second in line if Frisch does not want to and Barnes is third. My brother wants in but since he is not known by enough of the group he is not eligible. Also I am working on a manifesto for the league to put all of our rules and idiosyncrasies on paper so that its all definite and final. Everyone can review it on the blog when it is completed.
Maybe we should just invite that Japanese guy who apparently already reads our blog.
I like Marcus' idea.
I really don't have a single issue with relegation (other than the possibility that someone quits if they have to sit out a year), but i think the easiest solution is giving someone Bud's team ... so if someone is interested then we are golden .... if no one wants to, then i would support relegation ... but for now I am a veto
relegators!!!!! mount up...im fine withe the relegation system.
